Phasing out R404A and R507

Rules and options

What are the rules around phasing-out of R507 and R404A refrigerants and what does it mean for your business?

What are the regulations around R404A and R507?

The F-Gas legislation accelerates the phasing-out of R404A and R507 refrigerants. These are the gases with a GWP above 2,500. From 1 January 2020, only regenerated and/or reclaimed R404A or R507 may be used in your system. From 1 January 2030, the use of these refrigerants will be completely banned. The ban does not apply to:

  • Systems with a capacity <10 kg
  • Refrigeration applications operating at <50oC
  • Military equipment

New construction

From 1 January 2020, new installations with a GWP > 2500 are banned. This includes R404A and R507 refrigerants.

Usage

If you have an installation that uses R404A or R507, you can only refill the installation with recycled R404A and R507. As a result, refilling equipment with these synthetic refrigerants will become significantly more expensive. From 1 January 2030, the use of these refrigerants will be completely banned.

How can I phase R404A and R507 refrigerants out?

If you are planning to buy a new refrigeration system, we advise you to look at sustainable alternatives. More and more new refrigeration systems are using natural refrigerants such as ammonia, CO2, propane or butane. These solutions are environmentally friendly and highly energy efficient. They also allow you to comply with legislation in the long term. As a business owner, you can also benefit from attractive tax schemes.

Customer case

Gasunie's new refrigeration plant has a GWP of zero

Are you wondering how our refrigeration technology with natural refrigerants is proving itself in practice every day? Then read the Gasunie case study. For this customer, we replaced the refrigeration system using the fluorinated hydrocarbon R507 with a new ammonia installation. As a result, the GWP went from almost 4,000 to 0.

Methodology

How we operate

Discussing your requirements
During the introduction we will discuss you requirements. What do you need to cool and/or heat? What are the specific requirements for your product of production process?
Concept designs
We are in regular contact and think along with you. The result is a conceptual design and cost estimate of the installation. We take into account capacity, energy consumption, maintenance and safety.
Discuss the concept
Have you seen the concept? Then we would like to discuss the proposal with you. Does the layout meet your expectations? Is the capacity of the equipment sufficient? Are the any adjustments needed?
Drawing up a quotation
Once we know what modifications are required, we start working on the final design and the engineering required. We will visit you to explain the final proposal and provide you with the quotation in person.
Carrying out the project
Are you in agreement with the quotation? Then, we will plan and execute the project with the project managers, planners, technicians, mechanics and anyone else involved. Of course, we will communicate all our plans and who is responsible for what.
Maintenance of the installation
After the project is complete, we can assist you in keeping your equipment in optimal condition. Our comprehensive maintenance service ensures the quality and safety of your production process.
